Candace Read is the founder of LIVE LOVE READ, a fashion blog. Candace is one of our two speakers who will be giving talks tomorrow, Thursday February 8th at Zurie Studio! Her topic is Working with Influencers 101. Candace is a social influencer and a fashion stylist! Candace graduated with a degree in Dance from Valdosta State University, and has her masters in Luxury and Fashion Management fro Savannah College of Art and Design.

Okay, you're speaking at the Zurie Business Series: Working With Influencers 101. How did you become an influencer? Or maybe, what made you interested in becoming an influencer?

It’s actually a little bit of a long story! I started a blog back in 2011 to keep my family and friends updated on my adventures in New York City! While living there, my blog naturally transitioned into a style blog as I was influenced by the culture around me. Fashion everywhere!

That's so exciting! Who are your favorite designers?

After making the decision to leave the city, I decided to dig a bit deeper into fashion blogsphere and nearly 5 years later..here we are! Favorite designers! Eeek, that’s hard but I love Leanne Marshall. Also, Prabal Gurung. And of course Karl Lagerfeld. Chanel.

If you had to describe what an Influencer is to someone who doesn't know, how would you work the definition?

A social influencer is someone who has the ability and/or power to positively impact an individual. I think that’s the simplest way to put it! Of course there are layers to that!

I'm sure you will go into more detail at the Zurie Business Series, so I won't ask too many more detailed questions--but what are some things you wish business owners knew about what it means to be a social influencer?

I think the most important thing for business owners to know about social influencers is that they are not one in the same! While the process to collaborating may be similar, they are each different and value their work differently, which means how you compensate them will vary, as well as what product they provide may vary as well. Influencer marketing is not at all a one size fits all concept. It changes depending upon the individual!

You also have a career as a fashion stylist--in what ways do you find being a social influencer and working in fashion have benefited each other?

I think the most wonderful thing is truly compliment one another. I’m truly a lucky gal. I do think that styling is a unique form of tangible fashion marketing. Rather than marketing for a major company, I have the opportunity to help others discover their own personal style, which is a representation of them self (aka their personal brand). So as a stylist and a style influencer, I truly get to see both sides of the spectrum...from the individual to the brand. And I get to market fashion in a traditional sense too. 

What would you say is your favorite part of both of your jobs?

I would say the constant discovery and learning! You are always learning, growing and adapting to what’s happening in the industry.

What things can attendees of the Zurie Business Series do to better prepare themselves for receiving information during your talk?

To come with a pen and paper! There will lots of good nuggets to jot down. Also, come with some ideas on how you might to like to partner with social influencers so we can chat through a few scenarios and what your expectations should realistically be when conceptualizing an influencer marketing strategy.

Awesome! Any final remarks you would like to make? Any advice for attendees or business owners in general?

Investing in your business and surrounding yourself with passionate entrepreneurs is one of the best things you can ever do for yourself!! Education and community are KEY to success.
